About the vendor and its products
TailWind is a small Canadian company which has specialized in smart solutions for garage doors. The primary product is the iQ3 control unit that allows remote control of garages with 1, 2, or 3 doors. This unit can be combined with door sensors or purchased separately. What distinguishes Tailwind from competing products is the vehicle beacon, which enables the garage door to open/close only when arriving/departing by car, as opposed to on foot/bike/etc., as systems based purely on GPS position do.
Setup and control is done through a TailWind Smart app and there is also support for Google Home, Amazon Echo, and IFTTT, and through a firmware update in the fall of 2021, Apple Home support was added, and there is support for Siri Shortcuts.

Physical installation was very easy, based on extensive installation video, and to the extent this was required, we got very professional startup help. In the beginning we also had some issues with the automatic open/close function not always triggering, but this quickly improved and now works close to 100%. Later with added Apple Home support, that allowed integrating the opener into the rest of the smart home system, and Siri Shortcuts helps in allowing opening/closing the doors by voice (when going from the house to the garage or back again, i.e., not moving by car). There is also an app for the Apple Watch. |
