About the vendor and its products

Gardena is a well-known company supplying various products for the garden. The last years, the company has also moved into the market for smart solutions, albeit for the garden, built around a smart gateway and under the heading of Gardena smart system. Some relevant products are: 

• Robotic lawn mowers, a line of products that are connected and can be controlled from a smart phone app

• Garden sensor, which measures soil humidity, light, and temperature

• Smart water control, controlling the watering of lawn and plants

The various products can be connected together so that watering and lawn mowing is based on measured values from the sensors. Gardena has also established a «smart partnership» with some other manufacturers, e.g., linking a Netatmo Presence camera to the Gardena system. There is also a dedicated Gardena smart system app to control the devices, but also support for Apple Home and IFTTT. There is also a Homebridge plugin for the robot mowers and a Homey app.

Our experiences

Personally we do have some experiences with Gardena products, but sadly in the form of a robotic mower that is not online. It works well, but we do regret not buying a «smarter” edition, not in the least to more easily stop mowing in unsuitable weather. A smarter garden is a project for the coming years.
