Switchmate

About the vendor and its products

Switchmate, under the brand name SimplySmartHome, offers a number of products for the smart home, in different categories. Some of the products are obviously only meant for the North-American market, where light switches and power outlets are made for 120 V, but I am unsure about whether other products can works also in Europe. The most relevant products are:

• A security system, SimplySmart Security System, consisting of different components–base station with camera, siren, and door/window sensor

• Smart light switches, that really have a unique design, they are installed on top of an existing switch and thus both allows smart control and the ability to continue using the wall switch. There are two versions, Switchmate and Switchmate Slim

• Smart power outlet, Switchmate Power, also this with a rather unique design, this is a double outlet that is plugged into and mounted “on top of” an existing outlet (contrary to traditional smart plugs, which struck more out) and which also has two USB A outlets

• Smart camera, Indoor/Outdoor 1080P HD/IP Camera, also this with some smart features, it can be used indoor and outdoor, has night vision, built-in motion sensor, and can be linked to an existing doorbell so that it starts recording when someone rings the door and allows talking to the caller

There is a dedicated Switchmate app to control the products. There is also support for Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant for some of the products, others only work with Google Assistant, and some don’t seem compatible with any platform. There is, however, a Homebridge plugin.
