About the vendor and its products

Gogogate focuses on one type of product; automatic garage door control. The Gogogate2 consists of a control unit and either wireless or wired sensors for the garage door. It is also possible to add a set of indoor or outdoor cameras, and the system is controlled from an app for different types of devices.

Gogogate supports Google Assistant, Amazon Alexa, and IFTTT (but at least per now not Apple Home, but there is a Homebridge plugin). This integration allows programming the system so that the garage opens automatically when arriving/departing the home, based on GPS signals from a phone.

Our experiences

We came very close to buying the Gogogate2 system for our garage, but I became aware of the inherent weakness in GPS-based automatic opening/closing relying solely on phone signals in not being able to distinguish between coming or going by car, on bike, or on foot (although apparently this works better with Android phones since they also inform the signal recipient whether the phone is connected to a car bluetooth system). In our case, however, it would mean the garage doors would open/close every time we walked the dog or went for a run. Since the Tailwind iQ3 deals with this problem by using vehicle sensors, we went with that solution.
